I fell into real estate sales by accident. I’m actually an entrepreneur, and my background is in marketing.
In 2018, I started a travel-themed local HD TV channel in the mountain resort town of Brian Head, Utah.
One of my goals for the channel was to sell advertising to hotels and other businesses in the travel and hospitality verticals. Another of my goals was to create advertorial programming helping local Realtors® publicize their listings.
However, I quickly learned that I couldn’t structure that programming the way I wanted to unless I was licensed to sell real estate in the state of Utah.
So I got my real estate sales license.
Then along came the COVID-19 health crisis.
After COVID, all my advertising deals in the travel and hospitality niches fell apart.
But something else totally unexpected happened: all of a sudden, demand exploded for properties in my sleepy little mountain resort town.
Things got crazy.
Our little town is about a 3 hours’ drive from Las Vegas and is also within easy driving distance of major California cities. This made it the perfect getaway for city dwellers who wanted to isolate themselves from the chaos. There was a mad stampede to purchase property in my town and the rural areas surrounding it.
So the TV channel was history, but I seized that opportunity to hit the ground running as a Realtor®.
My days became chaotic, filled with ringing phones, nonstop showings and a full email in-box.
As I was eyeballs deep in pandemonium, it occurred to me that Realtors® deal with a lot of nonsense that could and should be handled by automation technologies.
I combed through existing transaction managements software, CRMs and other off-the-shelf solutions looking for a better way to do things, but the existing stuff didn’t do what needs to be done.
So I used some of my commissions on sold properties to code and develop the technology that I was convinced real estate professionals are missing.
The product I developed called 4BIZapp® is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that sits at the intersection of the real estate and telecommunications verticals; the platform also has potential for development in other industries as well.
In its current form, the technology helps Realtors® record their calls, organize their communications and protect themselves from lawsuits and fraud. It picks up where customer relationship management (CRM) software leaves off, solving several of the most compelling problems my colleagues and I in real estate sales are up against.
